We are fast approaching Mothers Day! If you haven't written that thougthful card, or sent those flowers, booked the spa day, or thought of the picnic to pack. . better get to it!
If you are having trouble coming up with ideas of your own, Modernseed has some great ideas in the Gifts for Mom section, with a coupon to boot!
This time of year my thoughts always go back to the memories of my mom and my childhood. The things I made for her. . .including an embarrasing cassette recording of "how much I love mother", doily cards, thank you's and I love you's. All very special, but I tend to treasure the things she gave me. Like the love of design, space, color and texture.
The notion that I can change an entire room in a day and be completely satisfied, even if I can't walk the next day because I am so tired and sore. My mom is one of those talented interior designers who can walk into a room and know what isn't "working" in an instant. She can transform a space with little resources and her own two feet and hands, and a station wagon. I grew up thinking this was the way all moms were, and now as an adult, a Mom and wife. . .I know differently! She is unlike any other. Not many other kids would come home after school with a new laundry room, or a completely wall-papered bedroom!
So, when I take on a mountainous project. . .and think back to my mom in her bandana tied around her hair. . .working tirelessly to make her home beautiful. . .I say, I can do this, and like it, even love it in the end.
This photo is of a vintage Terrence Conran book we had in our library as a kid. I used to pour through it, over and over. . .I think it is a hallmark and in one of many ways responsible for me choosing to be in an industry that is inundated with furniture, fashion, color, texture and a lifestyle surrounding your environment. So, thanks mom, for having this book in our home growing up, choosing to be in a profession that taught me to love furniture, and for leading me to believe that it is possible to transform an entire room. . in a day!
Happy Mother's Day!
